In the current month of September 2014, Cupertino, California based Apple Inc. introduced two new versions, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, of its Flagship smartphones. These are the latest phones but with some different specs. I have examined and prepared a comparison table of specs which are different in both the smartphones.

We are of the view that there are 11 differences between both the newer versions of iPhone. Major difference appears to be in:

Networks

The different networking environment, in which both the sets are designed to work, appeals to a large number of iPhone users. This reflects the target market for which they are built. But, one thing is very clear that both the sets can not only be operable in the specific 2G network (widely used in the Asia and other regions where 3G and 4G are not introduced as yet) and also in the technologically advanced regions with 3G and 4G networks.

Weight and Dimensions

The main demand of the market was the bigger phones, such as, those of SAMSUNG. The significant change in the dimensions of the iPhone 6 and Plus have been made to keep the pace with the market demand for bigger phones. Now, as mentioned by Verizon, the iPhone 6 Plus is 0.08 inch more lengthy to iPhone 6 (4.7 Inches of iPhone 6 as compare to 5.5 Inches of iPhone 6 Plus).

The weight of the iPhone 6 is 129g as compared to 112g of iPhone 5s (almost 13% more weight) but is 25 less than the 172g of iPhone 6 Plus. But, if it is taken in correlation with dimensions of both the phones (138.1 , 67 , 6.9 mm of iPhone 6 and 158.1 , 77.8 , 7.1 mm of iPhone 6 Plus), the difference of weight between the two phones is justified. Difference of weight and dimension is also, specifically, justified when prices of both the sets are also amalgamated in addition to weight and dimensions.

Screen Size

Screen size of both the sets is also significant when it is observed that screen size of iPhone 6 is 750 , 1334 pixels whereas the size of the iPhone 6 Plus is 1080 , 1920 pixels.

RAM

RAM of the iPhone 6 Plus (2GB) is twice to that of iPhone 6 1GB. Remember the screen size of iPhone 5s was just 1GB. It means there was no change in the RAM of iPhone 6 from that of iPhone 5s.

Battery usage

The change of the battery technology from Non-removable Li-Po 1560 mAh battery in iPhone 5s to Non-removable Li-Ion battery has been noted with specific improvement in the stand by, talk and music play time of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sets as compared to the iPhone 5s. The much higher batter time has been achieved with the help of employing change in battery technology. But this change in technology is, definitely, resulting in the gain of weight.

Now, it depends upon the choice of the users – if they want to enjoy better technology and better performance of the phones, they will have to bargain it for the higher weight as well.

Prices

As is clear, the price of the iPhone 6 at Verizon with the 2-year is $199.99 whereas price of the 6 Plus with same 2-year contract is $299.99, i.e. 33.34% higher. The higher price of the iPhone 6 Plus is clearly justified when the other specs are kept in view.

We are of the view that, basically, the difference between both the iPhone versions revolves around dimension, size and battery power. For the rest of the specs, there are no more difference of specs, including software.
